Family Games for Firefighters: Play a game with yer family and help bring some fun to our firefighters. We all know that being a firefighter is hours of waiting around interrupted by intense, sometimes life-risking actions. We want to give some of our favorite games to our firefighters, to reward both family play and the boys and girls in red, we will set aside 10% of each tabletop game sold this weekend to use to give goodies to our firefighters.
Great 4th of July choices for family games include:
Smaller games:
Cover your Assets-our favorite family card game
Hanabi–a co-op card based fireworks building game with the twist that the only player who can’t see your hand is, well, you. 😉
Love Letter—the most interesting card game you’ll ever play with a hand size of 1 and only 15 cards in a deck.
Spot it--great fun for all ages
Boss Monster-Get rid of all the pesky heroes that keep trying to invade your Dungeon. JUST Released this month– Boss Monster 2!
Cooperative games (Everybody vs the game…not each other):
Castle Panic: Keep the monsters from knocking down your castle…great for families (siblings). New expansion just came out: The Dark Titan.
Forbidden Island and Desert: Complete the quest before the Island sinks from under you or you get buried under the dunes.
Pandemic. Keep the world safe and healthy. (a lot less creepy then it sounds…even my 11 year old daughter loves it.) New expansion here as well: State of Emergency.
Xenoshyft: Starship Troopers-style deck-building game where you and your space marine buddies try and keep the hoards of increasingly bad-___ aliens from overrunning your base.
And in honor of our Firefighers— Flashpoint, the co-op game of keeping the day from going up in smoke.
And finally: Just plain great games.
Betrayal at the house on the Hill: Just scary enough game where you and your friends explore(and create) the creepy house until one of you suddenly is chosen by the game as the Betrayer, and it becomes them vs. everybody else in the game to complete a secret mission. WAY fun.
Five Tribes: New game…Mancala meets 7 wonders meets Settlers of Catan. On of those games that gets better each time you play it.
I vastly applaud those who have been making the effort and even succeeding at getting there to be more face to face time, and less face to screen. 😉
Origin’s prerelease this weekend! This Friday will be the last Draft for Dragon’s of Tarkir!!
NO POKEMON OR OTHER EVENTs this weekend (July 11th and 12th) because of big magic prerelease!!
Magic Origins, the next Magic set (replacing the summer core set) will have it’s prerelease on July 11th @10 and 4, and the 12th at 10 and 3(two headed giant). Cost is $30 in advance. Sign up in the store or online.
Magic Date Night: Saturday Night….NEW START TIME OF 4;00…not 5:30….and pizza is included in new price ($25) (less external food options. Pick up is by 8:30 at the latest (I’m taking my guys to see the Avengers.)
Pokemon Roaring Skies Prerelease event is this Saturday morning May 2nd. Here’s the deal. We provide the space, but it is run by the Pokemon league folks, and as much as they would like to, they can not do preregistration for the event. They’ve been allocated stuff for about 26 players. so it will be first come, first served, with registration starting at 10:30 am. It is $30 (cash directly paid to the organizers). Each player gets 6 packs of the new stuff to make their best decks with, plays a few rounds, and gets two more bonus packs when they return their land at the end. We WILL be doing our version of this event for the release the next week, so if you can’t make it, don’t want to risk not getting in, or don’t make it before they sell out, you CAN sign up in advance for the RELEASE event the week of the 9th (I started doing this for every new set after the first time when I had to watch a small parade of teary eyed kids…the Dad in me couldn’t take it).
There WILL be standard Pokemon League side by side with this event since we have the added space…
Parent to parent happy kid tips:
It is not competitive and is good for all levels of players
It will be a full house, so kids should either have parents around or be comfortable with that type of scene (as should you).
Make sure they have food or $$ for snacks (please make the food both clean finger and rug friendly…I put in our human sized chessboard rug myself…)
To avoid the sad kid syndrome…let them know that if they don’t make it into this one, that we will have a special one the next week for the release where they will get the same number of packs, but where you can sign up in advance so you are guaranteed a spot. Let them know that not everyone will get in and that you will give it a try. (See me if this happens….I can provide great words of comfort that come from someone who is not their parent, and is therefore much more heard. I know…my kids treat me like the wah-wah voice of the Peanuts cartoons as well.)
Make sure they have a box or ideally small bag to keep their stuff in…with name on it. Every time we have kids leave a pile of good cards on a table and get very upset when someone else picks them up.
This is for the Release event on the 9th….NOT FOR THE PRERLEASE on the 2nd.
Upddate…getting in and getting closer…about to announce the Grand reopening plans..
In the meantime…TWG is on for 5/9/15…
Hey Folks,
I’m finally coming out of the sleep deprived haze from last week. We’ve been working like proverbial pooches (a fairly strange expression, btw…eager-sure, loveable-why not, face licking-check, but given the lack of fields or sheep in the area, very few of our pups are defined by their extreme work ethic), to get the big move done on both ends.
So far…

Move out–big check.
Move in–mostly big check. (All the stuff is here…but getting it unpacked and on display correctly….that is a still very much a work in progress.)

We are open for business in the new location…but our big grand opening will start next month. Keep an eye on the site for the super secret updates…
Update….we ARE at the new store….sorry about being radio silent…working like a pooch all week to get the move to happen…
This week-4-15-14—we’re open for biz, and getting everything unpacked. Keep eyes on this space for new updates for the grand opening events in May…
NEW Location…. (NOT an April Fools Joke…this is for real.)
So .as many of you know, our sucess has been slowly squishing us, and for a while we’ve had our eye out for a new location with some more elbow room. Well, yay!! We found one. Here is the FAQ about it.
When are you moving: In progress at this point but targeting to do soft open at the new space on Friday, April 3rd.–Update–Open at new store now!
Where is it: Still in Alameda…on Encinal right by where it intersects with Central (near Franklin School).
Why are you moving?: Space, We need some elbow room, Our sucess has been hurting us in a strange way. The more people that come to the events, the more squished it gets. Where our current space lets us pack in about 4o people, The new space will eventually let us have near 7o people with LOTs more comfortable space. AND, we’ve been wanting for a while to start building a Maker space,
Is there parking?: Yep…free(!!!) street parking in front and across the street, and when school is out, all the spaces around Franklin school and park are open and fair game. (map to follow)
Are you worried about leaving Park Street? A little bit. We are giving up some walk in traffic in exchange for more breathing space and the chance to run a Lot more events.
Keep watching the site and the twitter feed if you want to see the work in progress.
The newest set in the Pokemon XY series, Primal Clash officially releases on Feb. 4th. The prerelease is at 10 am on Sat. the 31st. They will have space for ~ 32 players and it is first come first served and the $30 is paid directly to the Pokemon league folks and must be paid in cash. We will be doing our release event the following week and that you can preregister for either in the store and online.
Here are some sneaks from a great Pokemon site, Pokebeach.com.
After some detective work, we’ve finally solved the mystery! Scans of Primal Clash have been leaking over the past few weeks because the “Hoenn Region’s Collector’s Album” is now available at some Target stores! We’re not sure if the product is being sold early by mistake or if its release was just moved ahead of schedule, especially since product releases tend to vary so wildly. However, at least three people who have contacted us have been able to check them out through Target’s registers, so they’re definitely being sold at at least some of the stores. We first announced the Hoenn Region’s Collector’s Album in October. It is a mini-binder that holds 60 cards and comes with one Primal Clash booster pack. It costs $4.99. Unlike the Furious Fists leaks in July where the “Mega Charizard Boxes” that were sold early came with three booster packs of Furious Fists, this leak will probably be much slower since the albums only come with one Primal Clash pack.We now have ALL Primal Clash scans with a huge thanks to Bryan’s Toy Haven, Chris H., Michael H., Taylor M., James F., Ethan P., SuperOshawott, Kyle P., Anthony P., Jose F., Anstett E., Zach G., Harry P., Bryan H., Shayne K., Chris H., TheHipHoppip, WaterAndGrass, Allproductssoldhere, and TeamPV!
Welcome to Tiny Leaders. We will be playing the format during Tiny Leaders Thursdays.
This is a new format of magic created by Bramwell Tackaberry (who still maintains a Facebook group dedicated to the format… in the spirit of Commander, but designed as a 1 on 1 format instead of for group games.

Sat events usually sell out, and early registrants will get to pick which of the special clan packs they would like. As usual, we will be doing casual (3 rounds, win a round win a pack) and competitive (4+ rounds with two rounds winning needed for a single pack, but 12 or more packs for the top winners, depending on the number of players. Sun. at 3 will be a two headed giant team event. All of the events will be sealed (build the best you can from 6 packs provided in the prerelease kits) and also as usual, fun is the main goal of the days. 😉
