D20 Games

Completing the Big move for D20

Upddate…getting in and getting closer…about to announce the Grand reopening plans..

In the meantime…TWG is on for 5/9/15…

Hey Folks,

I’m finally coming out of the sleep deprived haze from last week.  We’ve been working like proverbial pooches (a fairly strange expression, btw…eager-sure, loveable-why not, face licking-check, but given the lack of fields or sheep in the area, very few of our pups are defined by their extreme work ethic), to get the big move done on both ends.
So far…

Move out–big check.

Move in–mostly big check.  (All the stuff is here…but getting it unpacked and on display correctly….that is a still very much a work in progress.)

We are open for business in the new location…but our big grand opening will start next month.  Keep an eye on the site for the super secret updates…

D20 is Moving! 1405 Encinal Ave.

 D20 1405 Mockup

Update….we ARE at the new store….sorry about being radio silent…working like a pooch all week to get the move to happen…

This week-4-15-14—we’re open for biz, and getting everything unpacked.  Keep eyes on this space for new updates for the grand opening events in May…

NEW Location….  (NOT an April Fools Joke…this is for real.) Map to new store

So .as many of you know, our sucess has been slowly squishing us, and for a while we’ve had our eye out for a new location with some more elbow room.  Well, yay!! We found one.  Here is the FAQ about it.
  • When are you moving:  In progress at this point but targeting to do soft open at the new space on Friday, April 3rd.–Update–Open at new store now!
  • Where is it:  Still in Alameda…on Encinal right by where it intersects with Central (near Franklin School).
  • Why are you moving?:  Space, We need some elbow room, Our sucess has been hurting us in a strange way.  The more people that come to the events, the more squished it gets.  Where our current space lets us pack in about 4o people, The new space will eventually let us have near 7o people with LOTs more comfortable space.   AND, we’ve been wanting for a while to start building a Maker space,
  • Good parking areas

Is there parking?:  Yep…free(!!!) street parking in front and across the street, and when school is out, all the spaces around Franklin school and park are open and fair game.  (map to follow)

  • Are you worried about leaving Park Street?  A little bit.  We are giving up some walk in traffic in exchange for more breathing space and the chance to run a Lot more events.

Keep watching the site and the twitter feed if you want to see the work in progress.

Pokemon Primal Clash — the scoop…

The newest set in the Pokemon XY series, Primal Clash officially releases on Feb. 4th.    The prerelease is at 10 am on Sat. the 31st.   They will have space for ~ 32 players and it is first come first served and the $30 is paid directly to the Pokemon league folks and must be paid in cash.  We will be doing our release event the following week and that you can preregister for either in the store and online.

Here are some sneaks from a great Pokemon site, Pokebeach.com.

ALL ‘Primal Clash’ Scans; Cards Sold Early in ‘Hoenn Region’s Collector’s Album’
Thursday, January 1st, 2015 @ 10 PM, UTC –  By: Water Pokémon Master
Hoenn Region's Collector's AlbumAfter some detective work, we’ve finally solved the mystery! Scans of Primal Clash have been leaking over the past few weeks because the “Hoenn Region’s Collector’s Album” is now available at some Target stores! We’re not sure if the product is being sold early by mistake or if its release was just moved ahead of schedule, especially since product releases tend to vary so wildly. However, at least three people who have contacted us have been able to check them out through Target’s registers, so they’re definitely being sold at at least some of the stores. We first announced the Hoenn Region’s Collector’s Album in October. It is a mini-binder that holds 60 cards and comes with one Primal Clash booster pack. It costs $4.99. Unlike the Furious Fists leaks in July where the “Mega Charizard Boxes” that were sold early came with three booster packs of Furious Fists, this leak will probably be much slower since the albums only come with one Primal Clash pack.We now have ALL Primal Clash scans with a huge thanks to Bryan’s Toy Haven, Chris H., Michael H., Taylor M., James F., Ethan P., SuperOshawott, Kyle P., Anthony P., Jose F., Anstett E., Zach G., Harry P., Bryan H., Shayne K., Chris H., TheHipHoppip, WaterAndGrass, Allproductssoldhere, and TeamPV!

Tiny Leaders-A new Magic format….

Welcome to Tiny Leaders.   We will be playing the format during Tiny Leaders Thursdays.

This is a new format of magic created by Bramwell Tackaberry (who still maintains a Facebook group dedicated to the format… in the spirit of Commander, but designed as a 1 on 1 format instead of for group games.

Here is the summary of the big rules:

Uses Commander rules-except:

  1. 50 card decks (including a “commander”)
  2. Cards must have converted mana cost (add up the total mana cost) of no more then 3.
  3. Players start with 25 life.
  4. 10 card sideboard-decks must stay at exactly 50 cards
  5. Best 2 of 3 game matches.
  6. Ignore Commander Damage rules
The Banned List: Our list is still undergoing changes, but the cards currently present are:
  • Ancestral Recall
  • Balance
  • Black Lotus
  • Black Vise
  • Channel
  • Chaos Orb
  • Contract From Below
  • Counterbalance
  • Darkpact
  • Demonic Attorney
  • Demonic Tutor
  • Earthcraft
  • Edric, Spymaster of Trest
  • Falling Star
  • Fastbond
  • Goblin Recruiter
  • Hermit Druid
  • Imperial Seal
  • Jeweled Bird
  • Karakas
  • Library of Alexandria
  • Mana Crypt
  • Mana Drain
  • Mana Vault
  • Metalworker
  • Mind Twist
  • Mishra’s Workshop
  • Mox Emerald, Jet, Pearl, Ruby, and Sapphire
  • Necropotence
  • Painter’s Servant
  • Shahrazad
  • Skullclamp
  • Sol Ring
  • Strip Mine
  • Survival of the Fittest
  • Sword of Body and Mind
  • Time Vault
  • Time Walk
  • Timetwister
  • Timmerian Fiends
  • Tolarian Academy
  • Umezawa’s Jitte
  • Vampiric Tutor
  • Yawgmoth’s Will
Additionally, these Legendary creatures cannot be used as Commanders:
  • Derevi, Empyrial Tactician
  • Erayo, Soratami Ascendant
  • Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
Play Rules: There are no “free” mulligans.  Tiny Leaders uses the standard “Pairs mulligan” rule: the player shuffles his or her hand into their library and draws one fewer card than their last hand, a player may not mulligan a hand with 0 cards
If a commander would be put into a graveyard from anywhere or exiled from anywhere (so long as it is face-up or a player can look at it face down,) it’s owner may choose to put it in the command zone.
Each time you cast your commander, the next time you cast it from your command zone, it will cost (2) colourless mana more to play.Format Exclusive Cards: Three generals are available for use, to fill the colour identity holes left by no legendary creature existing with that colour identity and mana cost.

1. Mardu [Legendary Creature] WBR (2/2)
2. Sultai [Legendary Creature] UBG (2/2)
3. Jeskai [Legendary Creature] WUR (2/2)

Register for Prerelease.

Sat events usually sell out, and early registrants will get to pick which of the special clan packs they would like.  As usual, we will be doing casual (3 rounds, win a round win a pack) and competitive (4+ rounds with two rounds winning needed for a single pack, but 12 or more packs for the top winners, depending on the number of players.  Sun. at 3 will be a two headed giant team event.  All of the events will be sealed (build the best you can from 6 packs provided in the prerelease kits) and also as usual, fun is the main goal of the days. 😉

Thanksgiving Stuff(ing)…open and Black Friday and Small Business Saturday Sales…

Hey folks…  Happy Thanksgiving! (In this post…recomendations for great T-Day Games and what events are coming up this week….

We’re going to be open this week for some fun events as well as a Black Friday and Small Buisness Saturday Sale…  More on that in a later post.

In the meantime, here are our top recomendations for great games to bring home for Thanksgiving to get people face to face, not screen to screen…

  • Cover Your Assets:  Great game that works equally well for kids and grandparents, and can get ’em to actually play together.
  • High speed fun with no brain required, Loonacy.

Loonacy:  Perfect for post Turkey brains…not a lot of high level thinking, but a fast paced game with a bunch of goofy laughing.

  • Roll For It: A fast paced dice rolling game with simple rules that is fun for all ages…
  • Qwirkle:  Think scrabble meets Bejeweled (shapes and colors instead of words). Grat Family Game
  • Concept:  Use sets of 5 iconic images to create clues in this latest play on charades/pictionary.  (Dixit is another great game along these lines.)
  • Castle Panic fans…there is a new version that blends in the irreverent charactors and art from Munchkin…Munckin Panic!  These are particualry cool since it is everyone against the game, though in true Munckin Style, they do throw in a little bit of backstabing…
  • Evolution:  This brand new games ia perfect in the spirit of getting stuffed. This 2-6 person game has each player creating their own customized species to vie to see who prospers and who gets eaten.  Big thumbs up on this one for 10 (smart 8) and up.
  • King of Tokyo Fans!!!:  The classic king of the hill monster game hops over the pond with the new King of New York version of the game.  This 2-6 player game is all about light hearted battling of giant monsters to see who can take the biggest bite out of the Big Apple
  • And for those who like their fun Dark and Delicious…two Strong recomendations:
    • Gloom: the Edward Gory/Lemony Snicket game where you lead your dark family to the worst possible life before knocking them off in some poetically tragic way, while your oppents try and give them (gasp) a good day. 😉
    • Betrayal at the House on the Hill, 3-6 players fingernail biteing exploration of the wonderfly creepy house. flips in the middle of the game by turning one of the players into the Betrayer who gets secrent instructions setting him/her against the rest of the players who have their own secret instructions how they try and survive the night.  This game is easy to get into and virtually impossible not to hvae fun with.

Events for thanksging week:

No D&D on weds…but some other fun….

Saturday:  2HG….

Tuesday:  11:30—Prerelease Rerelesase Mystery box Sealed Magic Event:  Repeated on Wednesday

And Friday and Next Satruday after Thanksgiving…BIG SALE…..
